LIFE'S BUSY-NESS

The month of May has been passing by in lightening speed it seems!!  Sometimes I think it is an aging thing......as we get older time seems to speed by faster.....is a phrase that gets taunted around every so often.  Then I think it has to do with how much activity is going on in one's life at the time for sure.  In any case, here I am at the mid-point of the month of May and there is no going back, LOL.  Memorial Day weekend will be next here next wknd.  and that is the kick-off of summer for me, even if the weather isn't quite there yet!

There has been lot's of activity for me these past weeks.  DH and I celebrated our 44th anniversary on May 1, at the lake condo.  We went to Walmart in Ashland with our friends and then had a late lunch at a restaurant and stopped in Washburn to move the boat over to its Bayfield dock.  It was an uneventful drive over, thank goodness. We came home on Sunday to attend Emily's 15th birthday party.  It was a great barbecue with all of our kiddos and grands there to celebrate.

The next day, Monday the 4th, I was off to Steve and Angie's for the week.  Angie had won a bid for a trip to Las Vegas (at a fundraiser for Athena last fall) and took Steve there to celebrate his birthday.
Needless, to say it was a busy week keeping up with little one's again!!  LOL  5:45 a.m. comes early for one that usually gets up at 7 every morning.  Landon catches his school bus at 6:50 every morning
and that was a bit of a scramble.  There were baseball activities for Landon on Mon, Tues and Thurs in the evenings and piano on Monday.  Isaac has preschool on M-W-F mornings.  He came home with me every afternoon so we could feed Gus and pick up the mail.  His highlight was frog-catching on Monday.  With the help of Aunt Amy he netted the biggest frog ever out of our pond - VERY exciting!!  The kids came home from their trip early Sat. morning (12:30 a.m.) and we headed home.

Saturday we headed down to the St. Paul Cathedral for Emily's Confirmation.  It was a beautiful service at a beautiful Church.  Thank goodness it all worked out, as she had a dance competition to perform in at 8 and 9 a.m.  A friend drove she and Amy at lightening speed from the Mpls. Convention Center to the Cathedral and got her there with 15 minutes to spare!!  We had a great lunch at the Midland Hills Country Club afterwards. On Sunday, Mother's Day, DH and I went to the Convention Center to watch Emily dance in competition and then hurried to Ruth & Mike's for a barbecue.  We then gathered up Ruth and headed back down to the Convention Center to watch Em and Luke perform their dance numbers.  It was a full day of JOY  :-)

In great sadness, I have to tell of the passing of Angie's friend, Athena, who passed after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her wake service and funeral were on Tues and Wed so I took care of the boys so Steve and Angie could attend those services.  A very sad time for all.

I also attended my LAST Book Club meeting,  as we will break for the summer.  We had a wonderful author speak to us ... she has had a fascinating life, that she has authored in her books.  I didn't buy one there, so now have to be on the look out elsewhere.  I do think they will be a good read.  Her name?  Beryl Singleton Bissell.  Book: A View of the Lake.

This weekend I sent Mike off to the Lake by himself so I could have a little down time at home.  LOL
Daughter Amy kept me very busy ...........  Friday night Emily had a Pop Concert at her school - she is in the Chorale and did a great job.  She is an all round performer for sure!! We grabbed a quick bite at Chili's and then dropped her off at an all night dance party and then Amy spent the night!  Rosie included LOL!  Saturday I joined the girls at the movies to see 'Cinderella' an absolutely wonderful Disney movie!!!  I loved every minute of it and am sure I will purchase it to enjoy at home.  We then stopped in at the Crystal House and found lots of fun clothes for Em and Amy found a great bag to keep her boxing gloves in (at her extreme work out classes).  We then were on the hunt for a trench coat and 40's looking hat that Emily will need for her dance recital.  We had good luck at Herberger's thankfully!!  We enjoyed a bite to eat at Applebee's to top off the eve and home I came.

Now it is almost noon on Sunday.  I slept in until 9:15 and missed morning Masses at the local churches.  I have a conundrum in that I feel a loss at my home parish.  I do like the parish in Anoka, but that takes better planning on my part to make the Mass times.  Looks like I will attend the eve Mass.

Just made a cuppa caffe, which I will add cream and froth to be my lovely daily latte....YUM!!
And then .... seize the day!!

MAY 1ST

Ahh, May 1.....Happy Anniversary DH....44 years.....whose counting LOL!!

Also the day we launched the boat into the water at Washburn and brought the boat to dock at Pikes Bay Marina.  It was a cloudy day with just a little chop and cool air, at around 50+ degrees.  Was an uneventful ride over and easy docking.  DH is most excited to get it all set up for fishing and now at 9 pm is anxiously looking for someone to go fishing with in the morning.  I do not care to go.  46 degrees is too cold for me now in my older age.  I have gone on many opening fishing trips in the past years when I had to don a snowmobile suit and then just about froze to death LOL.  How does that saying go?  "Been there, done that!"  Hopefully his good buddy Pat will go out with him.

We did go into Ashland to the WalMart there (ourselves and Pat & Barb).  We all went to a late lunch, dropped the boys off at the Washburn Marina to launch the boat and then came on back to the Pikes Bay Marina to meet the guys and tie up the boat when they arrived.

Was a busy, uneventful week at home this past week.  I was very saddened to hear of the passing of my Uncle Fran.  The funeral was held in Hastings, NE at St. Cecilia's Church, where I attended Masses as a small child (very little- 3 yrs and under).  I would have loved to have attended, but too far a drive to make on my own without having taken my vehicle in for the recall of the steering column.  My sister Peg and brother Dave were able to attend, so am anxious to hear the detail.  I did hear a LOT of cousins were in attendance.  As a youngster (lol) I spent quite a bit of time at my Uncle Fran and Aunt Roses' house playing with our cousins, while we visited our grandparents in the summer.  OH we had so much fun.  And Uncle Fran ('June' at the time), and Aunt Rose were just wonderful.  As I came to learn, he was quite an entrepreneur (opened and owned 3 gas/service stations), very knowledgeable in the stock market, an avid bridge player and very active in his Church.  He was always so friendly and kind - his memory will hold a special place in my heart.

I walked with my dear daughter for about 1.62 miles on Monday and have hardly been able to stand and move quickly after sitting, ever since.  What the heck??  I will be watching Steve's boys next week, so I hope I recover by then!!
