Where We Should Be

Pinned Image

Well after the temps dropped to -25 (wind chill) here in Bayfield last night, I ask myself, I wonder what the people in Miami are doing this morning??  Could they be basking in the sun, beach walking,
playing golf -- something other than hiding out in the confines of their home, seeking shelter from the coldness that awaits them on the other side of the door, waiting to zap the air right out of the body as it greets you with it's chilled grasp!!  LOL

Actually, my dear sister, Cindy, and I have managed quite well in this coldness.  We have visited the Big Water cafe and coffee roaster in town (coffee shop with food) on both frigid days--gets us out and also gives the car a chance to warm up.  The little town of Bayfield isn't bustling, but a few hardy souls are out and about.  On the first day a Mom and her two little girls came into the coffee shop, having walked to get there.....you could tell by their rosy little cheeks and warm clothes.  They seemed to just come in to have a cookie and hot chocolate and browse through the basket of books, while Mom enjoyed a beverage and read a book.  Someone else was lost in their laptop, another just basking in the sun as it's rays shone through the windows.  Yesterday we came in with our laptops in tow, and ordered a FABULOUS lunch

of fish chowder and a chicken melt sandwich with chips and pickle .....YUMMO!
They also do 'latte art' on your latte's which is really fun!

After this fun outing we came back to the condo and decided to do our Cucumber Mint Mask and enjoy a glass of wine.  We mixed up our paste of cucumber, mint leaves, and egg white.  Then we poured ourselves a glass of wine.....which was NOT chilled.....so we put them on the porch, why not, it was plenty cold out there.  We went up and washed our faces and pulled our hair back.  We came down and went to retrieve our wine ~ low and behold ~ the glasses had frozen solid to the cement!!  Cindy pried them loose with a knife and then our treatment began!  ahhhh...........
We laid on each of our sofa spots, listening to soft music for 20 minutes of bliss.  After the treatment time allowance, we washed off the mask and our skin was so soft and nice!!  A gift to ourselves.

That my dears, is how to spend  a frigid day  ;-)

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

Pinned Image

Well that pretty much sums it up!!  Hello - I am posting from Bayfield today, and the forecast is COLD.  I have been most busy since the last time I was here ~ my sister CINDY  has come for a visit.
She came into Minneapolis on Sunday morning and what fun I am having.  We had talked about our forthcoming trip earlier, and thought it would be fun to go away and just hide out.  And that is how we came to be in Bayfield.  That is all fine and dandy EXCEPT  Mother Nature decided it was time for Mr. Winter to make a visit at the same time!!!!  BRRRRR......

I am just going to update our activities to date.  Sunday we went to a Brunch after we left the airport.
Later in the day we met up with dear daughter and family at Church and had a little visit.
Monday I was able to do something I have always wanted to do.....we took our wireless connections ( for lack of a better term ) to Starbucks and sat enjoying our lattes and chatted intermittently while reading our individual readers  :-)  Ahhh....so relaxing and fun.  On our way home we received a phone call to join Amy & Angie at the Y for a Zumba and Pilates class in the eve.  Of course, we were happy to accomodate that idea, and then afterwards went to Tanners for a beverage.....or two!!  So fun!

It was determined that C & I would head North to Bayfield on Tues....AND we had looked at the weather forecast prior to this.  All that was mentioned was that a 'snow shower' could occur on each day of the week.  Well, no biggie, off we went after stopping for a latte from Caribou  YUMMO.

After arriving safely, and unpacking, the next venture was to refill and turn on the WATER HEATER.  After MUCH trepidation on my part....SUCCESS.  Then we heard the weather forecast for the next few days in this area.  Wind, Snow, Cold Snap.  Cold Snap????  YES!!  No wonder the warning sign for low tire pressure came onto the dashboard of the car.  YES we can see wind chills of
-25 or such in the next few days.  POOR CINDY  :-0   Also I should mention here,  before retiring last night, Cindy and I both stretched and found some sore musclage that we probably acquired from all that wonderful exercising we participated in on Monday night......

We ventured out around noon today for the grocery in Washburn and some lunch.  The weather at that time was not too bad at all.  We stopped for some Soup & Bread at Coco's (Potato Leek Soup ~ TASTY)  and when we left the wind had picked up and you could feel a definite drop in the temp.
We then headed back into Bayfield to the coffee shop Big Water for a latte--HoneyBee Latte--which was another yummy treat.

Now we are relaxing after a wonderful dinner prepared by Cindy - Apple Pork Chop bake and salad.
I can hear the wind rearing it's ugly head as I bring this all to an end -- will do a weather check and let all know how it is........umm that would be -20 or -30.

Two things came to mind this morning:  1) This weather is not for the faint of heart
                                                                 2)  I FORGOT ..... I have been trying to
                                                                      remember ALL day!

On that note.......ta ta!

LAZY SUNDAY

lazy

A lazy lazy Sunday to say the least.  Woke up at 8:30 am and didn't shower until 11:30 when the doorbell rang ~ and the neighbor boys were at the door!!  Well, during that time I did make coffee and breakfast for DH.  I think my downfall is definitely having the laptop computer so accessible here on the kitchen counter.  I can get lost on here for a very long time, and that is not a good thing.  Of course, I feel connected this way, somehow.  It really doesn't make any good sense.....

We will head off for church at 5, the little girl grand will be an altar server again, which makes it a little special.

The other little grands at the dear son's home have finally gotten over the flu bug at their house.  Moved through all 4 cherubs ..... grrrr!!

I am going to join in the Knitting Club again tomorrow, after my stop into the shop this past week.
I don't have any idea at this point in time what I will work on, so I should probably get some yarn and needles and pattern put together.  I was perusing 'Ravelry' online and looked up my old instructors blog--she has such a great blog site.  She has lot's of pictures posted all the time.  That is something I should look into learning how to do, without losing everything.  This is truly a work in progress. LOL

Well, not too much to report on this day - I guess that is when we go to the recesses of our minds and post about some thought that we obsess with or something, or post on something that is preoccupying our thoughts ..... I will try that on another day.....after all, this is a LAZY SUNDAY!!

Awwww

Pinned Image

There is just a wise cuteness about this little guy!!  LOL

Got up early and left the house only to realize I didn't have my eyeballs (contacts) in.  So back in I went and paid bills, made my mental list and headed out the second time.  Grabbed a Caribou Northern Lite Vanilla Latte and headed for Dear Daughters and we were off to Gail's for some pciture organizing and lunch.  It was a fun afternoon.  Picked up the cleaning and perscriptions on the way home and here in time to meet DH.  Command decision is not to head North to Bayfield...we are both tired.

Oh well, is this the doldrums of January??

Thursday, January 5, 2012

Well a busy few days into the New Year.  First off, I missed my hair appt yesterday because I was LATE!  grr....guess you can't be too mad when it is your fault, but geez.  So I rebooked for next Tuesday for a cut and color and got home and remembered I have Book Club that day.  So re-scheduled for Wed next week, only at noon, so should be able to get there without a problem.  So as I was at the shopping mall, I ducked into Talbots and got a great sale ..... 40-70% off the already marked down prices and then another 5% off if you used your Talbots card......so I did.  Found some new pants and a couple sweaters.
Came home and made a fab salmon recipe which I shall share at the end of this blog.  (hopefully LOL)

Today I had the lovely dental appt--with no results....just eat and yay for using the water pick .... guess there could be a leak in the cement around the tooth under the crown, but they couldn't see anything on the exray and didn't want to mess with the crown since it is relatively new.  I HOPE they know what the heck they are talking about.
Then met my good buddy at Sammy's and shared a veggie pizza with banana pepper added...was that ever yummy!!  While I was waiting for her to come I stopped in at the yarn shop and saw the owners--was fun just to be there....will probably start up classes next Monday again.  Will be fun to see the old group!!  Had a SB's Chai Tea Latte while a waited ..... YUMMY!!

Then it was off to Target for groceries and I ran into an old friend and chatted about 45 minutes catching up.  DH just came home from a Wrestling Meet, so off with me.
Will add recipe.

GOOD MORNING JANUARY 2

coffee

BRRR......  winter has found us!!  The winds were howling most of the day yesterday and throughout the night, giving us single digit wind chill readings this morning.  I guess we have gotten used to our mild season so far this year.  It is forecasted to reach 40 again by Friday though, so bizarre!

It feels good to just brew and enjoy a hot cuppa kaffee this morning and mull over what to do on this Monday holiday.  DH is off to wrestling practice so it is quiet.  I should think about putting Christmas deco's  away....although, in reality they just got placed about 2 wks ago.  LOL

The Jordan little's had an outing to 'The Depot'...the old Minneapolis Train Station, transformed to an indoor ice skating rink on Friday past.  There was talk last night of returning for one last time before heading back to school tomorrow after their break.  Makes me wish my body was younger, I would ask to go along and take a twirl at it!!  They DID tell me about two 'older' women that had been there with some kind of "help aid" that they were gliding across the ice with.   Maybe there is hope?!

Well I must be off and prepare for the day.  I can see the bottom of my cup!  Ahhh.....

HaPpY 2012 !!

2012

January 1, 2012 - has arrived!!  A cold, windy, 28 degree start to the day with a scattering of snow.

We spent the evening with Amy and her family playing games, and then watching 'Iron Man 2' until the stroke of midnight; then it was kiss and hug the New Year in LOL!!

It is a melancholy beginning for me as I look back over the last year of 2011.  It certainly had it's high notes as well as its low, so to speak.  The lowest was definitely having lost Mom in December of 2010.  We went to lay her to rest in April and packed up and went through her things.  So sad that she was never able to return to her home, which she so desired.  A heartache for all of us as we would have loved nothing more than to have that happen for her.  Her poor health and mind would not allow
for that to happen and her whole world basically crashed around her from Febr of 2010 to December.
Such a decline.

My highlights were so many though.  I had so many wonderful events spent with family--birthday celebrations, dance recitals, spring concerts, babysitting the littles for a few days while their parents vacationed.....
Speaking of vacations....I was so lucky to go first to Pennsylvania for the College Wrestling Tournament.  Actually in Philadelphia.  We went with the Berglund's who are seasoned travelers, so sight-seeing was high on our lists.  I saw Liberty Square, where all this countries forefathers came together to lay the foundation of what this country was built on.  SO MUCH HISTORY!!  I was less than 6 feet from the Liberty Bell I believe....in the rooms where the Declaration of Independence was penned and signed both.  I came away with such appreciation for how this country had it's beginnings.
The wrestling, subway, food, hotel, architeture of the buildings.....fabulous.

Then in June I was able to go with Amy and the kids to DISNEYWORLD!!!  OMG I had soooo much fun.  I went on every ride I thought I could tolerate LOL which was most of them.  The castle in Magic Kingdom IS magical---oh my!!  The weather was hot and humid, the day we went to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom--well, they almost lost me to overheating!! Lukie and I cooled off watching a play of 'Little Nemo' in an air conditioned auditorium while Amy and Em went on the wild Yeti ride!!  The next day we were at Epcot Center and that was another fabulous treat.  A wonderful sit down lunch at a fancy Japanese restaurant where they cooked the food right at our table.  Many wonderful rides, shows (Michael Jackson), and Nation scenery.  The ride inside the golf ball looking Epcot was fabulous!!  We stayed at a little house not far from the Park and it had a pool in the back which we were so happy to have----much fun.

We left Orlando on Monday night for Daytona Beach.....we met up with Mike and Paul (in memory of Mike & my honeymoon LOL) and Emily's dance competition.  We had a beautiful condo right on the ocean beach with a private pool also.  It was so fabulous---RIGHT ON THE BEACH---a dream come true for me!!!  I had so much fun bonding with the kids......

Then we were off for the Bayfield condo and a week of vacation there.  It was a relaxing week.  Steve and Angie and boys joined us over the Fourth of July festivities and that was very fun.  Amy and the kids spent a couple days later in the year and we had a great time---albeit NO bear incidents this time!!

Peggy came to spend a week of her vacation with us in September and that was another fun-filled time.  Almost as much a vacation for me as well as her!!  We took in the Renaissance Fair, The maze out in Shakopee (so many laughs that day), a downtown outing at the Shout House, and a trip to a 50's style malt shop and 'Cavalier' a horse show inside a big tent.  Of course, there was also shopping to be done.

The Holidays were so fun, filled with family and laughs and FOOD!!

On a sad note.....our dear pastor at Epiphany for 30 years of our being parishoners there....passed away on Dec 28th.  He was such a shepard of his flock -- as was so evident by the thousands of people that came to show their respects.....a 24 hour vigil/wake with a 7pm prayer service, and a funeral that was so moving a beautiful.   I am so blessed to have known him, in just the small capacity that I did, I learned so much spiritually, and hope I can remember always to be the person he taught us that God wanted us to be.  I will miss him.

Well, I welcome 2012, and hope it is another great year for myself and my wonderful family and friends.

A yummy Cinammon tasting Kuerig coffee for today ..... yummy!
